Marijuana Candy: How to Make THC Gummies and Weed Lollipops

Marijuana edibles are not new—in fact, they are one of the most popular in the marijuana world, with many options available on the market.

But did you know you can make your own marijuana candy such as gummies and lollipops? We’ll show you how.

What Is Marijuana Candy?

Marijuana candy is a type of edible product. They combine two popular items: cannabis and candy.

There are many types of marijuana-infused candy, including chocolates, caramels, hard candies, lollipops, and even gummies. They are the perfect way for users to satisfy their sweet tooth while also getting their cannabis fix.

The Benefits of Marijuana Candy

There are many reasons users choose to consume marijuana candy instead of using other products. Some of the benefits of using candies include:

  • They are discrete. Smoking and vaping marijuana produce a tell-tale smoke scent that clues everyone around you into the fact that you are doing marijuana. Edibles, however, do not. You can pop a few in your mouth, no matter where you are.
  • They are long-lasting. Though edibles take some time to affect (about 20 to 40 minutes), the trade-off is that they stay in the system longer, offering users long-lasting effects.
  • They don’t involve inhaling smoke. For some people, such as those with asthma or lung issues, smoking marijuana is not an option. Marijuana candies and other edibles offer an excellent alternative for them.

How to Make THC Gummies

Everyone loves gummy candies. We enjoy them as children and continue to indulge in them as we age. So, it only makes sense that THC gummies are all the rage. And, for those that are adept at making candy, making your own THC gummies is possible.

To make weed gummies, you’ll need to do two processes. The first involves making cannabis-infused coconut oil, and the second, actually making the gummies.

To make the cannabis-infused coconut oil, you will first need to decarboxylate your weed. Marijuana is not effective in its raw form; it needs to be heated (the process of which is called decarboxylation) for the THC and CBD to become effective.

To do this, grind your weed and spread it out on a baking sheet. Place the sheet in the oven at 105 to 120 degrees Celsius for about 30 minutes. You want the weed to get toasty but not too burnt. You’ll want to end up with about 3-4 grams of cannabis.

Next, heat a cup of coconut oil in a saucepan, heating it to 55 to 65 degrees Celsius. Add in your marijuana and let it simmer together for about an hour, stirring it frequently.

Once your hour is up, strain the oil to remove the plant matter and place your newly infused oil in a storage container.

For a pure-THC product, you can also use THC oil to make your infused coconut oil.

Once the coconut oil is made, you are ready to start making the actual gummies. To make the gummies, you will need:

  • 1/2 cup of your previously made cannabis-infused coconut oil.
  • 1/2 cup of cold water.
  • 85 grams (roughly one box) of flavoured gelatin.
  • 2 tablespoons of unflavoured gelatin
  • 1/2 teaspoon of sunflower or soy lecithin
  • A dropper
  • Gummy moulds

Once you have your materials, you can start baking.

  1. Put the water, coconut oil, and sunflower or soy lecithin together in a pot on low heat.
  2. Stir the mixture thoroughly, ensuring the oil is completely melted and the consistency is even.
  3. Add in both the unflavoured and flavoured gelatin, stirring them constantly.
  4. Keep the pot simmering on low heat until the gelatin is completely dissolved.

Note: You should continue to stir your mixture and prevent it from coming to a boil.

  1. Use a dropper to fill your moulds. You’ll need to do this quickly so that the mixture doesn’t have time to cool. You may need to return to your mixture and stir it to prevent it from hardening.
  2. Once your mould is full, place them in the freezer for about 30 minutes.
  3. Remove from the freezer and the mould and enjoy them.

Storage tip: Keep your gummies in the fridge until you are ready to eat them.

If marijuana gummies seem a little complicated for you, consider trying weed lollipops. You may find them a little easier to make.

To make weed lollipops, you will need:

  • 1 cup of sugar
  • 1/2 cup of light corn syrup
  • 1/4 cup of filtered water
  • 1 tablespoon of your favourite flavour
  • 2-3 tablespoons of marijuana tincture
  • 1 candy thermometer
  • 1 saucepan
  • Lollipop sticks
  • A silicon mould

Once you have everything, it’s time to get started making your lollipops. During this process, it is essential to keep an eye on the temperature throughout the cooking process.

  1. Add the water, syrup, and sugar to your saucepan and mix them.
  2. Turn the heat up to medium-high on the stove.
  3. Stir the ingredients constantly until the mixture becomes uniform and the sugar is completely dissolved.
  4. Once the mixture begins to boil, put your thermometer in the pot. Watch for it to reach 150 degrees Celsius.
  5. Once it reaches the correct temperature, turn off the heat and remove the pot from the burner. But, leave the thermometer in the saucepan.
  6. Wait for the temperature to drop to 120 degrees Celsius.
  7. Once it reaches the right temperature, add your chosen flavour and cannabis tincture to your mixture.
  8. Stir to combine.
  9. Fill your moulds with the mixture and add your lollipop sticks.
  10. Let the candy cool (typically 15 to 20 minutes).
  11. Enjoy.
