What does Weed Taste Like?

If you’re thinking of trying edible cannabis products like weed gummies, candies, brownies, or the like, you may be wondering:

  • Is thetaste of marijuana earthy?
  • What does weed taste like?
  • Does weed have any taste at all?

We’re not going to leave you hanging and will try to answer these questions:

The taste of the weed depends on several things. First, all weed is not created equal. Every time you smoke weed, it will have different weed flavours.

Each cannabis plant has different growing conditions, different amounts of terpenes, and different strains.

The terpenes. in particular, make a big difference. We already mentioned that terpenes affect the smell, but also affect the flavour. Think about the smell of cookies baking in the oven; you know they’re going to taste good if they smell good. It’s the same with your weed.

While we expect more than have been discovered, over 100 terpenes have been identified to date. Given the number of terpenes, there are as many as 100 different flavour combinations.

The Terrific Terpene

You may be surprised to know that some people can identify certain weed strain categories by their smell. This is because of the terrific terpenes in the weed. The most common terpene odours are musky, clove-like, earthy, and skunky.

Terpenes are responsible for those fabulous weed flavours. Limonene gives a pleasant citric smell and taste. You may have noticed that some strains get called ‘citrus, lemony or sour.’ These are the strains rich in limonene. Alpha-pinene and Beta-pinene are responsible for feeling like you just had a smoke session out in the pine trees. These terpenes are found in everyday foods like parsley, dill, and basil.

The Weed Taste Depends on How You Consume it.

There are usually three ways to consume your weed.

  • Edible (eat your weed): What does weed taste like in an edible? If you’re consuming weed edibles, you will notice that the food has an earthy taste. However, many edibles are flavoured with chocolate, candy, or infused with cannabutter. Canna-butter is very versatile because you can cook with it. You can put it on pancakes or use it to make cookies, cake, or gravy. The taste of marijuana is delicious if you cook it into the right foods. There’s also oil made from weed known as cannaoil. Many people take cannaoil directly under their tongue or add it to food or drinks.

Your edibles need to have THC, the psychoactive cannabinoid found in weed to get high. The higher the THC count, the higher you’re going to get. When you’re making cannabutter, you can’t turn it up too high, or you’ll cook the THC right out of the butter. You have to simmer it on low.

  • Next up is smoking: There are several ways to smoke weed. You can break up the weed with your fingers or in a grinder and roll it up in a rolling paper to twist a joint. You can roll it in cigar paper to roll a blunt. You can put your weed in a pipe or bong. You can even vape weed or hot-knife it. Hot-knifing consists of heating two butter knives on the stove, pressing a small amount of weed between the two knives, and inhaling the smoke through a straw or tube. It’s a great way to get high off a little bit of weed. So if you want to conserve your stash, try hot-knifing.
  • Lastly, Tinctures: What does weed taste like in a tincture? Tinctures come in many flavours. Tinctures are made by infusing alcohol with Cannabis. They are placed under the tongue for 60 seconds and then swallowed. Because there’s a large vein under your tongue, the tincture is absorbed directly into your bloodstream. When you take a tincture, you feel the effects within 20 to 90 minutes. You can also add the tincture to food or drinks. Tinctures are super convenient because the bottles are small, making them easy to carry with you. You can add them to food when you’re out at a restaurant if you want to be able to get high without smoking when you’re out with friends.
